THE BUILDING

The Theatre House Residents was an industrial and business district of the city centre during the first Republic of Estonia. The original building was destroyed during the march bombing of the Second World War, but fortunately part of the first floor’s masonry has survived. The building was rebuilt in 1952 and housed the Tallinn Oblast Government and later the Library of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. The main façade, the vestibule, the main staircase and the hall with its interior decoration have been declared a cultural monument and restored to their original state.
