Description

HOONE
The building at 18 Suur-Karja Street was designed by architect Rudolf von Knüpffer and built in 1886. In 1917-1918 the building housed the premises of the Tallinn Workers’ House. At the beginning of the 1920s, the three-storey building was rebuilt and made taller on the basis of a design by the architect Artur Perna, and a new and large-scale reconstruction of the building at Müürivahe Street 14/16//Suur-Karja Street 18 // Vabaduse Square 2 was completed in 1923 as a six-storey building of AS Laenupank.
All major renovation works have been carried out 8 years ago: the facade of the building, new roof (the attic and the attic have been insulated), replacement of all windows (wooden framed windows), replacement of all electrical wiring, replacement of hot and cold water piping and sewerage. In addition, the staircases have been modernised, and wooden doors have been installed with a padlock system.
