The Ankru 8 building received the Estonian Architecture Award in 2025 and is part of the Põhjala Factory quarter – an environment where industrial heritage is combined with contemporary urban space and a strong sense of community. The project was developed by real estate developer Hausers.

SURROUNDINGS AND PÕHJALA FACTORY

Ninety-six years ago, visionary Harry Feldmann, with roots in Kopli and an engineering background, founded the Estonian Rubber Industry company. Until 1998, pacifiers, footwear, toys, and rubberised clothing were produced here in the former Russian-Baltic shipyard facilities. In the late 1970s, over 700 people worked at the Põhjala Factory, making it a true industrial giant.

Today, more than 100 creative-sector businesses are based in Põhjala Factory. Here you will find bars, bakeries, restaurants, and cafés. You can enjoy urban greenery in the community and rooftop gardens, visit art exhibitions, and shop in studio stores.
