THE BUILDING

Theatre House Residence was an industrial and business district of the city centre during the first Republic of Estonia. The original building was destroyed during the March bombing of World War II, but fortunately part of the first floor’s masonry still exists. The building was rebuilt in 1952 and housed the Tallinn Oblast Government and then the Library of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. The main façade, the vestibule, the main staircase and the hall with its interior design have been declared a cultural monument and restored to their original state.
