Description
THE BUILDING AND ITS HISTORY
The earliest written records mentioning the existence of the building date back to 1389, although it is believed to have been built even earlier.
In 1873, the buildings at Vene Street 17, 19 and 21 were given a unified façade design, which has been preserved to this day. The architectural features include pronounced horizontal lines, cornices between floors and distinctive window detailing.
The property at Vene Street 19 is a rare find in Tallinn’s Old Town, as it features two courtyards. The first courtyard, accessed from the street, serves as a service yard, while the second extends to the boundaries of the properties at Pikk Street 28 and 30, separated by a high dividing wall. Exceptionally spacious, the courtyard has been designed as a terraced garden, making it one of the most beautiful landscaped inner courtyards in Tallinn.
The building features a renovated façade and stairwells, and the roof has been refurbished. The water supply and sewage pipes, as well as the electrical wiring, have also been replaced.
